PENTAX Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of sales for the new “i” endoscopic system that supports megapixel images and that has been developed in response to the needs of the medical scene, such as high image quality, high resolution, and multiple functions, to the US market.

This system is composed of the “90i,” which are video endoscopes equipped with a megapixel CCD in the image sensor, and the “EPK-i,” which is a light source/processor that is equipped with advanced image processing capabilities. The “i” series is a high-end endoscopic system with significantly improved operability that pursues PENTAX's design concept of “medical equipment that reduces the burden of doctors and relieves patients' pain” for endoscopic products, in addition to an image quality that exceeds that of conventional PENTAX products.

The “i” series endoscopic system will also be on display at “DDW2007” (Digestive Disease Week 2007), which will be held in Washington D.C., United States, starting on May 20.

Light Source/Processor “EPK-i

Main Features
• Video endoscope “90i

  1. Megapixel CCD

The first time that a megapixel CCD is used in an endoscope. High-definition images can be obtained, through an exclusive objective optical system, light distribution optical system, and digital signal processing.

  2. Improvement in operability

    1. The control body of the endoscope has been redesigned, taking the fit and ease of angle operations into consideration.

    2. The design is one that has been made optimal for observation, by reexamining the position of the air and water supply nozzle at the tip of the endoscope, as well as the positional relationship between the light distribution lens and objective lens.

    3. The insertion tube has been configured by pursuing an optimal design based on data for conventional PENTAX products.

• Light source/Processor “EPK-i

  1. Full-digital support

A new system, where the data from the endoscope is transmitted directly and digitally to the processor, is used. It is possible to conduct image processing and output still images and videos, while retaining high image quality.
It is also possible to conduct upgrades for the firmware easily, for the purpose of making improvements and additions to the functions.

  2. New image processing engine

Equipped with a new image processing engine that has a computing power approximately 50 times more advanced than that of conventional PENTAX products. Even surface and contrast enhancement processing, which require complex calculations, can be processed in real-time.

  3. Touch panel screen

Equipped with a touch panel system on the front panel, which is the first of its kind for endoscopic processors. Compared to systems with a front panel switch, keyboard, and foot switch, as is the case with conventional PENTAX products, it is now possible to use a variety of functions through simple operations.
It is also possible to change the position of the switch on the screen, to provide more convenience.

  4. Multi-user interface

    1. Serial interface: Supports direct image recording to USB memory

    2. DV output terminal: Standard-equipped with a DV terminal that supports audio input

    3. P-in-P function: Comes with a function for image input from external devices, where images can be displayed on the front panel LCD

  5. Other

    1. Connector lever that enables for attachment and removal with just one touch

    2. Possible to remotely control PENTAX's water supply device

    3. Equipped with terminal exclusively for a foot switch
